Netflix’s Single’s Inferno’s Theo Jang & Newcomer Jay Tan How Yi Will Act In Hollywood Thriller “The Blowout”; Shoots In Malaysia

Following his breakout appearance in Singles’ Inferno, a South Korean reality television show on Netflix, Theo Jang is looking to appear in an upcoming Hollywood feature film The Blowout, starring opposite newcomer Jay Tan How Yi, an alum of the prestigious drama school New York Film Academy.

Set to be filmed entirely in Malaysia, the story centers on Apple, an enforcement officer at the city hall, is forced to step into the criminal underworld to provide for his family, ultimately stealing a bag of cash. The hunter becomes the hunted when two Americans, Tom and Rex, arrive in the country to track down whoever took their money — no matter the cost.

The rest of the ensemble cast includes Trenton Sikes, Marie Kawarai and Phillip Zelanick, all based in Los Angeles.

Local actress Jacqueline Goh has also joined the cast. Notably, Goh, Jang and Tan, all three previously appeared together in the Malaysian action film Oppa, released in cinemas in 2024.

The American production will also have a local at the helm. First-time director Travis Tan of Penang will be behind the camera; the filmmaking graduate from Los Angeles is making his mark in the industry after returning from abroad.

Production is slated to begin early next year, and it remains unclear which role Theo Jang will be playing in the movie, Jay Tan How Yi is believed to be portraying the lead role of Apple.
